If carving out time to work is difficult, then knowing when to stop can be harder still. If you find yourself working on weekends, checking e-mail in the wee hours, and hauling your laptop to soccer games, force yourself to stop: You're on the path to burnout. If you're found guilty, you can be kicked off. Even the little snarky remarks are considered harassment, so always practice fantastic customer service skills.

You absolutely have to be available for questions at all times. The general rule of thumb is that you want to respond to questions within 1 hour. I know it seems harsh, but if you call a company, do you want them to call you back next week? Or do you want help now? Because I guarantee you, they'll just go somewhere else, buy from someone else, and you lost the sale. Likewise, always be professional and polite. There are times where you'll wanna slap someone.

There are so many articles out there that focus on increasing productivity while working from home. A lot of them are fantastic and chock-full of applicable tips. But some I’ve seen focus on how to set up your home office to achieve feng shui and feature a picture of a woman smiling, holding her baby in one arm, and taking a conference call with the other. Um, no, unless you have the world’s quietest baby. That’s just not how it is.
