The ability to communicate quickly and reliably is the most priceless attribute a remote employee needs to succeed. Update your manager or boss frequently. Most offices use some group chat service, like Slack, to communicate with each other during the day, and tools like Google Hangouts or Skype for video calls and meetings. Make sure they’re installed and you know how to use them, and make your presence known to your colleagues (especially your boss) when you are available and working.
Something else I recommend is taking the free 7-lesson mini-course on general transcription offered by Janet Shaughnessy of Transcribe Anywhere. This will help you to understand if you're a good fit for a transcription career, what you can potentially earn, and also where to get started. Janet also has free legal transcription mini-course if you're more interested in going that route.
Yard sales are great to find things, especially books and jeans. I'd get lucky and find a pair of Lucky Brand jeans for $1. Sell on eBay for $100. Keep your eyes peeled, and do your research. After a while, you'll know exactly what goes and for what. If you keep your cell phone with you, never let them see you looking up something and then try to buy the item. You just told them it's worth something, and you'll never score it for a good deal now.
The reasons you've listed are exactly the reasons that I work from home! No more need to commute, dress in a certain way for work, no expense of buying lunch. My only problem is that I continue to work again in the evening just because I enjoy it! Ha!! I guess that's not too bad of a "problem" to have! :) I get distracted throughout the day though, so I am working on that. Great advice! Thanks for sharing!
In addition, Reynolds pointed out that it’s vital to continue the same sorts of casual conversations with your colleagues that you would have in a traditional office setting. Ask about their kids, what they’re doing for the holidays, and so on. Otherwise, you’ll become a one-dimension worker bee without a personality — and you’ll likely start to miss the interactions, too. “In a remote environment you have to make those things happen; you have to be proactive,” Reynolds said.
Success in direct sales, therefore, requires sales talent, product-line knowledge, and the ability to keep track of the administrative side of the selling process. Those most apt to do well are detailed-oriented people with outgoing personalities. Further, in a multi-level business, becoming highly successful requires knowing how to recruit, mentor, and motivate other salespeople.
Thank you for contributing such a wonderful post. As usual, you have conveyed a profound truth in simple language, that is, there is no substitute for hard work. Persistence pays, so never give up. And if one course does not work, take a detour. If your on-line business is not working, find another angle to work on it, but don’t give up. This is the message I got out of your write-up: a true inspiration. In your case, the hours and hours of struggle have paid off, so continue to educate us, your fans and readers. Wish you the best and three cheers to your success. Cheerio.
The challenge was: My work required travel all over the world, and that didn’t integrate so well with my life. I knew I wanted to keep growing in my career, but I also wanted to be home for all of the milestone moments with my family. I had two young children under age 3. I wanted to be home for bedtime. I wanted to take them to swimming lessons once a week. I wanted to carpool with my husband to work to catch up and enjoy simple moments together.
Great post and all, but is it possible to make money from a blog without teaching people how to blog? Seems like most of the money making blogs out there make money from affiliates for starting a to blog! Making Sense of Cents is one that comes to mind. She’s a huge pusher for Blue Host, which she doesn’t even use. A huge portion of her income, if not all, is based on teaching people how to blog.
What was trading like back in 2008 and do your students learn how to short the market by profiting from it like in the movie big short ? By the way I love your philosophy, I have the same mindset I’m in a career where I have lost my passion I am a general contractor , Canadian,30 and I’ve been in a passive investor for the last five years But I truly think that trading could be my new passion. the thing I am lacking is education. I’m quite cautious and Leery of the information and courses provided online for day trading.I like the honesty and transparency on the courses and education that you provide. What type of investment is needed for the hardware To day trade? Do you need multiple monitors? Or can you get by with a laptop? Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing back from you! Cheers! I live in Sherbrooke Quebec and am fluent in French, would warrior trader be interested in perusing the francophone market? I might Beable to help! Bonne journée!
Samples. You’ll need some samples before you can really begin marketing yourself. Figure out which market you want to approach first, and then find or create some related samples. For instance, if you want to try your hand at blogging, study some successful blogs, and then write a few posts of your own to use as samples. Do this for any and every market you’d want to write for.
What are your organization's best practices for helping working parents succeed at work? Tell the story, apply for the When Work Works Award! - The When Work Works Award is part of SHRM’s national initiative that helps employers become more successful by transforming the way they view and adopt effective and flexible workplaces. The award application window is open now – May 25, 2018. For more information and to apply click HERE.

“It is often a challenge in the beginning because of the sudden lack of buzz that typifies a traditional office environment,” says Lynn Taylor, a national workplace expert and author of Tame Your Terrible Office Tyrant. But once you’re on the phone, engaged in your business, attending meetings, using videoconferencing and making a proactive effort to create your own business community, that isolation is typically overcome, she says.
Work keeps invading life. “It’s a lot easier to be distracted when you’re surrounded by the comforts of your own home,” says Ian Aronovich, mentioned above. “And unless you live alone, you’ll have family or housemates disturbing you when you’re working. When I was first starting up GovernmentAuctions.org with my business partner, my kitchen was my office. It was a nightmare when customers called for assistance and I had to take the calls during random hours of the day and night.”
Research. You need to know what others are selling before you decide what wares you will offer. Lots of people sell handmade items, but those who work hard to make their items unique in some way are the ones who truly stand out. After you’ve decided on a product, check out the other sellers on Etsy and find what they’re offering, and then figure out how you can do it differently.
Before the evolution of work-at-home, call center employees had to drive to a brick-and-mortar site each day to sit at a desk and provide service to customers. Today, companies like Alpine Access, Convergys, and Asurion hire employees to answer customer service calls for their clients, who range from cable television service providers to healthcare companies. Employees are paid a starting rate of around $9 per hour, depending on the company. Although this hourly pay is below the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ reported median rate of $14.70 per hour for a customer service representative, work-from-home call center agents do not face commuting, clothing, meals, and other costs associated with working at a brick-and-mortar center. Some of these call centers also offer opportunities for advancement. Supervisory, managerial, training, and human resources positions are also available as telecommuting positions.
Employment Options offers work-at-home jobs for citizens receiving SSDI and/or SSI disability benefits in 47 states. Their services are free as part of a national return to work program. The jobs they have with leading national employers are for various skill levels and are Customer Service or Tech Support based with opportunities to specialize in Billing & Coding, Information Technology, Nursing, Case Management, Concierge, Sales, Reservations, Travel and more. They also offer onsite community positions as well. Simply apply on their website to get started and their staff will follow-up within two business days.
Most people think that you need to have a lot money stocked away before getting started with investing in real estate, but that isn’t true. In fact, you can start with with as little as $500 by using a platform like Fundrise. Fundrise allows investors of all types (beginners and experts alike) to invest directly in a real estate portfolio that’s managed by a team of professionals.
Your Ads. The key to success will be in your ability to get the word out about your classes. Word of mouth will play an important role in your marketing efforts because taking classes is something that friends like to do together. Don’t just rely on friends and family, though. Post fliers in supermarkets, churches, and school bulletin boards. You’ll definitely want to have an online presence so people who are searching your area for such classes will be able to find you. You can establish one by creating a website, and then using digital media to spread your message. And don’t forget your neighborhood as a source of business. Take some time to visit your neighbors, even if you just visit one block a day, and tell them about your new business.

8. Microworkers – Microworkers, as the name implies, is another microtask site. They offer a variety of tasks, and some of those may include data entry. Some of the jobs they offer actually pay better than similar jobs on other microtask sites. They also show you a percentage on each job that demonstrates how often that job poster has approved the work of previous workers. Your only paid for approved work, so that’s useful! Payment for completed jobs goes directly to your PayPal account once you hit their $10 payout threshold. Be vigilant against scam jobs offered through Microworkers.
Service. Another key aspect of successful B&Bs is the level of service that the hosts provide. You’re not just offering room and board, but an experience. If they need help planning a day seeing the sites, offer to sit down with them and help them plan their itinerary. If a businessperson needs copies for a presentation, offer to go and make them. Remember, your job as host will be to make your guests’ stays as comfortable and pleasurable as possible. If you succeed, they’ll remember you the next time they travel through your town.

I may as well start with something I know well. When I started out as a freelance writer 20 years ago, things were very different. I wrote mostly for magazines, and I had to rely on snail mail to send out drafts and queries. I’d wait weeks for a response from my editors. Not many people had the patience for it, and few stuck around long enough to ever start earning a real income from it.
Limit your distractions from outside sources. Try not to answer phone calls that aren't work related. Train your dog not to interrupt or don't allow him in the room during work hours. (This is especially important if you make and take business calls; a dog barking in the background is unprofessional and distracting.) Do not turn on the TV and don't surf the web unless that is part of your job description.
In an era of aging baby boomers and changing healthcare laws, medical coding and billing jobs offer relatively stable ways to make money from home. To qualify for medical coding jobs, you’ll need certification from one of the recognized national certification organizations. Inputting patient medical data, including doctors’ notes and diagnoses, with an extremely high degree of accuracy are the main tasks. Medical billing professionals primarily input and submit payment and insurance data relating to medical care and procedures.

Your Deals. In addition to establishing a per-class price, also offer packages to entice people to sign up for more than one class. For example, if you intend to host classes on making soap, offer the classes individually, as well as in a group. Someone could take a class learning how to use fresh flowers in homemade soap, or they could buy a bundle that teaches them how to use those, fresh herbs, and plastic toys for kid’s soap. However you decide to price your classes, remember that the buyer will want to feel like they’re getting a lot for their money. If you can provide that in a fun atmosphere, they’ll likely be back time and time again – and they’ll bring friends.

“I dreamed of creating a community that empowered people and gave them the tools to achieve their dreams. At the time, I felt unfulfilled and unhappy with my job and life, so TNC rapidly became my after-work obsession...I am crazy about helping others find that same “something” in their lives. Whether it be sharing all of my lessons learned so you can grow the biz of your dreams or reminding you why you’re ready, even when you think you’re not, I hope TNC unlocks something BIG deep inside you.”

A chaotic working schedule will eventually be discernible in your work. This is why you should strive to be as organized as you would if you would be working in an office. You might consider segmenting your day into specific parts, allocating the tasks you intend to complete within given hours. As you complete what you’ve set your mind to complete, you’ll have an endless sense of gratification and self-satisfaction. And this can be quite motivating – even when you’re working from home.

While you play, the app works in the background and transfers small sums from your checking account into a high-yield Blast savings account based on “triggers” you set — things like the number of opponents you defeat or enemy bases you destroy. You can earn extra cash by completing “missions” that allow you to test new games or take familiar games to the next level.
Separating your technology from the place where you come to recharge and disconnect at the end of the day is invaluable to the discipline needed for working remotely. Just as you should wake up in a room absent of technology, you should return to one once you’ve completed a day’s work. When you log off for the day, log off. Close your work chat programs and emails and consider yourself “out for the day,” and “home now.”

When you work at home, you are literally bringing your work life into your home. It is damaging to your work life balance to constantly bring work home with you. Mitigate this by creating an office space if you have room. If you do not, set aside room within your dining room or living room to work out of. Make it look and feel like a desk you would use in an office.

Socialize. Research Pricing (And Set Fair Starting Prices): Before setting prices for each item, research your local Craigslist website and (if possible) nearby yard sales to get a sense of how to price them. Remember that many buyers will try to haggle – so set prices a bit higher than your bottom dollar, but not so high that you’ll scare off first bids. 10% to 15% is a good rule of thumb. Consider bunching low-value items, such as old CDs, into lots of five or 10, or offer x-for-$y deals.
Countless employees dream of being granted the privilege of working from home, and understandably so. Working from home has multiple advantages -- saving money on commuting costs, getting to do laundry during the day, and being available for deliveries, just to name a few. But to be successful at working from home, you'll need the right tools and setup. Here are a few items to check off your list of essentials.
Hello, I am a college student a senior and I do all of my courses online. I am searching for a entry level customer service position to work from home, or a data entry or virtual assistant anything I can do to earn money from home. I don’t have a car and it seems all my opportunities for work are to far away never in my reach on the city bus. Any suggestions for someone in pursue of a degree but has a bit of experience?
Over the years, I've participated in a handful of focus group studies. Not only do they pay well, (I've always made $100 per session), but they pay upon completion of the session — can't get paid much faster than that! All of the market research groups I've done were conducted in-person, but, research companies like 20|20 and Respondent both offer online and virtual focus groups.
"If anyone else is going to be at home when you're working, they just have to be clear that when you're in your 'office' (in my case, my signal to the family is having headphones on), you're working -- even if it looks like and feels like you're hanging out at home. It's easy to get distracted by the many things that have to be done around the house during the day."

Yahoo bought up Associated Content and have amassed their own army of writers to create articles on numerous topics.  They also utilize their writers to do local feature stories for Yahoo Local cities.  They work similarly to Demand Media Studios, in that you can “claim” assignments.  I signed up to see how it worked, and it seems as though most of the payment for them is “performance based”.  In other words, you get paid based on the number of hits your article gets.
5. DionData Solutions – DionData Solutions is currently looking for Data Entry Professional Operators who type 60 WPM with a high degree of accuracy. You should be proficient with computers, able to handle Internet, email attachments, and both downloading and opening files. You’ll be working independently, so you should have a high degree of self-discipline. They also expect their data entry specialists to work on multiple projects simultaneously while sticking to deadlines. U.S. citizenship is a requirement for the position.
Does remote work pay well? Industry reports show that remote workers earn about 15 to 30 percent less than in-office workers on average. This is partially offset by avoiding a commute – gas and vehicle maintenance – as well as by incidentals like occasional meals out. However, there is no denying that companies tend to treat remote workers as less-than-regular workers, especially because there is still throughout the civilian world an old guard of managers/supervisors who judge workers by the appearance of diligence (i.e. how much time they sit in their chair at work) rather than by results.
We all sign up for subscriptions that we eventually don’t want. As I’m sure you have found out, sometimes cancellation isn’t so easy. What I love about Trim is that they will identify these recurring charges in your bank account, let you know what you are being charged for and then give you the option to have them cancel them. They can send an email, make a phone call or even send a certified letter if that’s what the company requires. This service is currently free. Trim can also negotiate things like your cable bill. For that service, they charge you a percentage of your annual savings. Sign up here.
Motivation is crucial and something you have to mold on your own. Start by determining if you respond best to extrinsic or intrinsic motivation. The first is basically being watched by an employer, or a data-tracking system, someone gauging your productivity (in the case of Ctrip, call volume) with math. That’s easy to do. That’s easy to count and reward and fire. Intrinsic motivation is far more nebulous. You do it because you care about it, because you derive professional pride from accomplishment, because you thrive on innovating, on doing.
Communicate professionally by being active and engaged in conference calls and looking presentable in video conferences, and write concise emails with meaningful subject lines. Nearly every remote worker also recommends finding a way to interact with other people by conversing outside of work with distant co-workers and befriending fellow remote workers (even of other companies) – it will help you feel more connected and less isolated.
Coding – whether for developing apps or designing websites – is another big business online! It’s a pretty egalitarian business as well, since you can teach yourself to code in many languages and you can code from wherever you are. At its most basic, all you need is a computer (or laptop or tablet), an Internet connection for connecting with project files or far-flung colleagues, and a text editor. (The software involved can get more complicated than that, as you go along.) There are more small businesses wanting customized websites and startups trying to create that next great app every day, and coders can make a living along the way.
Swagbucks is an online platform where you can earn points called SB, which can be redeemed for gift cards and coupons. You can easily earn SB points by watching videos, playing games, answering questions, shopping online, and even surfing the web using their toolbar. Refer your friends, and you’ll earn even more SB points. Your SB points can be traded in for gift cards from Amazon, Target, Starbucks, PayPal, and Walmart.
Another common one? It's called the Secret Shopper scam. You get a letter or see an ad or e-mail saying you can be a secret shopper, shopping different stores, acquiring different products for a company. Sounds simple right? It's starts out that you receive a check in the mail from the company you're supposedly doing services for, and "working for."
Ms. Gassman’s monthly income, which can vary greatly depending on whether she books an acting job, ranges from $1,800 to $4,000. Some months, almost all of her income goes to the $1,450 rent on her 290-square-foot studio on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Whatever is left after essentials goes toward paying off her remaining $16,000 in college loans.
NextWave Advocacy, LLC contracts with news junkies that are politically aware, home-based individuals who are critical thinkers to make outbound calls to educate citizens and help them participate in contacting their elected officials. No sales or fundraising calls are involved. This is not a telemarketing opportunity. The pay is $12.00 per hour with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week.
If you're a fast typist there are many ways to make money from home by typing. Some you need experience and training others you don't. Data entry, for instance, takes very little experience; however, if you aren't fast enough you won't make any money at. Specialty transcription work (like medical) may require a degree and experience to get started.
It’s one thing to pop by your boss’s office a few times a day to casually ask for their input. It’s another to constantly message them when you’re working from home, asking how they would handle every unique situation. In the beginning, Reynolds suggests asking questions frequently, so you learn the general patterns and inclinations of your manager. Eventually, you can translate that into a healthy autonomy when you can make educated decisions about routine items.

Cassidy Solis has served since September, 2012, as the Senior Advisor, Workplace Flexibility, for SHRM’s Effective and Flexible Workplace Initiative. She is responsible for growing When Work Works, a nationwide initiative that brings research on workplace effectiveness and flexibility into community and business practice, and for educating employers about effective and flexible workplace practices.
Advertising. You won’t have any quests until you get the word around about your room. Start locally by putting a sign in your front yard and spreading the word through friends and family. Next, build a small website and make sure that you attract the search engine spiders by using the keywords people would likely search for when looking for a place to stay in your area. In addition, there are sites that specialize in promoting specific areas and their attractions, such as BedandBreakfast.com and Airbnb – your Bed and Breakfast should be listed there.
Many earn even less than $27,000. Maureen McCarty, 23, who graduated from American University in 2010 with a journalism degree, makes $25,000 before taxes as managing editor of TheNewGay.net, a blog focusing on gay issues, with no benefits like health insurance or a 401(k). The salary doesn’t cover her expenses, so she often baby-sits five nights a week for six families in the Washington area.
Are You Financially Prepared for Self-Employment? If you're currently working outside the home, many experts recommend that you have a year's worth of living expenses squirreled away before starting a business. Of course, not every entrepreneur follows that advice, but most experts agree that at the very least, you need to plan for a few lean months if you're giving up a regular paycheck. "One of the biggest mistakes that people make is not having enough money to get them through the first years," says Beverley Williams, president of the American Association of Home-Based Businesses. "You have to look at your finances and spending habits and then ask how long you can go before you feel the pinch."
Transcription work from home jobs involve listening to audio files and typing out what you hear. While some types of transcription (such as medical) require training, it is possible to break into general transcription with little to no past experience. Before you start digging through the companies below, you may want to read this post about what general transcription involves and this post about the equipment transcribers use.

All of the Work From Home Job listings you see on are pre-screened and verified to be legitimate home opportunities Jobs. Seekers should choose from the best "work at home Job" for them. Work From Home Jobs can be full-time or part-time, temporary or permanent, and they are available in most careers and industries. As technology continues to develop, more employers are offering Work From Home Jobs See Below!
Start by making a list of the tasks you perform in your most recent job, and ask yourself which ones you enjoy the most. Are you happiest when you're solving problems or when you're coming up with something new? Do you crave interaction with a variety of people, or are you more solitary? Think about how you want your workday to feel, then look for a business that fits not only your skill base but also your temperament.
While many people start a home business to create or replace a full-time income, some people simply want to generate a little extra money to pay debt; save for a rainy day; or use as mad money, a sum of money reserved for small expenses or impulsive purchases. In the past, those who wished to make extra money needed to go out to find a second job. Fortunately, times have changed and people are thinking creatively about how to make extra money from home. They may be selling their services such as driving or shopping, skills such as writing or sales, or used items such as furniture, technology, or clothing to bring in extra income. Websites designed specifically to assist you in getting rid of unwanted items or selling your services or skills can help.
Of course, the biggest space invaders live inside your home. Your children, provided they're old enough to understand, need to learn to respect your work time. Parlapiano recalls putting a sign on her door with "Mommy is working now so don't come in" on one side and "Okay to come in" on the other. She also allowed her children to bring the mail to her office, and she made it a point to take a midday break to have lunch with them. Keep in mind, particularly if you have in-home child care, that it may be easier on your child and your caregiver if you keep your days relatively predictable. It's important for your spouse to recognize your boundaries as well. If you're serious about starting a business at home, your days can't be dedicated to laundry and running household errands. With your spouse's help, work out a plan for dividing household chores and spending quality time together.
Although the demand is expected to decrease over the next decade, the opportunities are still there for travel agents who can harness the Internet to earn clients and help them plan their adventures. According to the BLS, job prospects may be best for travel agents who offer expertise in certain regions of the world, have experience planning tours or adventures, or who focus on group travel.
Keep in mind, however, that there is a "cost of doing business." In direct sales, that cost is likely to include the purchase of kits, catalogs, and product samples. You might even be required to maintain an inventory of products. So be sure you understand the cost commitment, not just the profit potential, before you sign on the dotted line. (Also realize that you assume some legal liability in becoming a product distributor, as explained in this Consumer Alert from the Federal Trade Commission.)

Projects always take longer than you initially think they will. For that reason, you'll frequently get done less than you set out to do. So, just as you're encouraged to overestimate how much time you'll spent doing one thing, you should also overestimate how many things you'll do during the day. Even if you come up short of your goal, you'll still come out of that day with a solid list of tasks filed under 'complete.'
One of the cool things about Google AdSense is that it's so easy to get set up. If you have a blog or website, you can sign up for a free Google AdSense Account. From there, Google will give you a unique code that you will paste onto your website. Google takes it from there, tracking your page views, traffic, and earnings on your behalf. There is no upkeep or maintenance to get this thing going, which makes it a no-brainer if you have a website already.
A wide range of businesses need workers to enter various data into their systems, whether that data are used to track inventory or shipments, create business plans, or measure performance or output. And since a computer and typing skills are the most important requirements for this job, many data entry workers are able to work at home, and on a schedule that fits their lives.
Find time to go for short walks to help inspire productivity and creativity. One of the blessings of working remotely is the opportunity to live a more active lifestyle instead of being deskbound, but it’s important to make activity a habit. Otherwise you’ll fall into the inertia of sitting at your desk all day and never leaving the house at night.
What It Is: Students in countries including Japan, Korea, France and Germany are looking for English speakers to practice with. Sessions focus on things like making professional small talk or running a meeting (trainers are provided with specifics on how to teach each topic, and are also trained themselves for two days before starting the job). Lessons take place either over the phone or on a live Internet video service like Skype — sometimes at night, because you're working with students in different time zones. You need to commit to a minimum of 20 hours a week at consistent times, and can work as many as 35 hours.

People want to order from someone who has great feedback and has a store. Customers know you take this seriously and you have a reputation to protect. This means that if anything goes wrong, you'll stand by them. They feel more protected and safe, so you can literally CHARGE MORE than your competitors, up to 20% more, depending on what you're selling. If you have 100% positive feedback with over 50 feedbacks and a store, I'd say go for 20%. You'll get the sales over others who don't have a store or 100% positive feedback.

The 13 companies on this list are hiring for roles from transcription to software engineering to athletic recruiting. So regardless of your skill set, one of these companies could be your ticket to never having to get out of bed to go to work again.
As a home-based employee you don’t have the luxury of co-workers sitting right next to you–so you’ll often have to figure out issues for yourself. If you’re the type of person who prefers a lot of guidance or is easily distracted, working at home may not be an ideal situation for you, Hanna adds. “And even if you are motivated and can stay on task in a home office, if you’re a social butterfly that requires a lot of social stimulation, working at home may cause you to go stir crazy or it make even make you socially depressed.” By knowing your personality and skill sets, you can determine if working at home is the right choice for you.
As mentioned earlier, one of the benefits of working from home is the ability to tend to some personal tasks (reasonably speaking) during the workday. For example, if you have a meal that needs to cook for two hours, rather than wait until 6:00 p.m. to get home and start prepping as you would when working from an office, you can throw it together at 4:00 p.m. so that it's ready come dinnertime. The downside of this flexibility, however, is that you risk coming up short on daily tasks because you're busy tending to household items. That's why time management skills are crucial for anyone who plans to work from home. If you can't trust yourself to stay on top of deadlines, you're better off working from an office to avoid compromising your job.
Thanks for the comments. Ironically, this post showed up in my RSS about 10 minutes after I asked myself why I was not getting the conversions I expected. If nothing else, it was encouraging. I get several thousand hits to my blog each year. My problem is that I get hits from all over the nation and my industry (health insurance) requires a state license. I can only offer general advice to people in Califonia. In order for me to earn any money, my prospects have to live in one of the states in which I am licensed and have a competitive product. I have tried advertising on Facebook for hits in my state but have been underwhelmed. I need more state specific hits. Does Google advertising work or would you have another idea for building state specific readership.

If you work in a field like information technology or accounting, where a computer is the primary tool of your trade, working from home, at least part-time, is fairly common within the industry. But even if you are not an IT guru, you can still make a living working from a home office in one of the following five common work-from-home job categories.
Save money on food. I recently joined $5 Meal Plan in order to help me eat at home more and cut my food spending. It’s only $5 a month and you get meal plans sent straight to you along with the exact shopping list you need in order to create the meals. Each meal costs around $2 per person or less. This allows you to save time because you won’t have to meal plan anymore, and it will save you money as well!

If you have spent any amount of time on social media you’ll see day traders flaunting the life style of traveling around the world, staying at the nicest hotels and driving the fanciest cars.  Typically these posts show traders easily making the $1k/day goal on a laptop while sitting in a hot tub or a swimming pool.  This style of marketing is all about selling the life style of the rich and famous.  Despite the fact that I’ve been very successful, the “lifestyle” is not why I started day trading.  I started day trading for much more humble reasons.
Kanarek says if you’re not taken seriously, it's important to let friends and family know that although you're working from home, you're still working. And if you’re feeling lonely or unmotivated, work from a coffee shop or a restaurant a few hours a week. “While you may not interact with anyone, being around others can motivate you to work,” Kanarek says.
