WOW, this post sums up exactly how I’ve been feeling lately. Being about 1 year into the internet marketing game I have found that time is definitely a critical asset. What you save in money will definitely cost you in time AND in order to succeed there is a certain number of hours required in preparation. No shortcuts! I could “amen” this post all day.

Most such ads are simply scams dressed up in work-at-home clothing. The "honest" fine print addresses that, too. "After 14 days, you will be charged a monthly fee of $47.50 for … membership. Unfortunately, there is no clear contact information listed on the site, so finding a person to contact about stopping your monthly payment of $47.50 (and your $99 fee) may be a bit difficult.

Commuting sucks, and one big advantage of working from home is that you no longer have to deal with it regularly. It’s a scattered arrangement, but it’s working for me. Like Bloom says, you maintain your independence. You feel professional, and you stay connected. And sometimes, if you want, you get to wear pajamas.

Does remote work pay well? Industry reports show that remote workers earn about 15 to 30 percent less than in-office workers on average. This is partially offset by avoiding a commute – gas and vehicle maintenance – as well as by incidentals like occasional meals out. However, there is no denying that companies tend to treat remote workers as less-than-regular workers, especially because there is still throughout the civilian world an old guard of managers/supervisors who judge workers by the appearance of diligence (i.e. how much time they sit in their chair at work) rather than by results.


Jamie, great question. I would try to ship things that can go First Class Mail if you want to run a business. Otherwise, all your profits get eaten up by postage. If you have to ship things outside of that, use calculators on the eBay form and have the buyers pay exact shipping. Sometimes Parcel Select is cheaper, sometimes Priority Mail is cheaper. I always insure anything over $30, and Priority Mail gives me insurance up to $100. Bear that in mind when making a decision as well.

Some of our students share my same passion & dedication for the markets, while others truly use the markets as a means to an end.  They trade the first 2hrs then go enjoy their hobbies.  Both are enjoying success, albeit in slightly different ways.  This year I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to day trade from France, California, New York City, Rhode Island, and Las Vegas.  Although I sometimes live the lifestyle other traders like to brag about, I avoid bragging or even mentioning that I’m traveling.  I’ve realized that the majority of our students want to day trade so they can supplement their income and achieve financial freedom.  It’s not so they can live the lifestyle of the rich and famous.  While taking nice vacations can be a perk of being successful, it shouldn’t be what drives you to be successful.  I don’t believe materialistic things are a good motivator.  Having a passion is what sparks motivation & drive.  That’s why I try to nurture a passion in each of our students, even if it’s not a passion for day trading.

Hanna says that all too often work at home individuals fall prey to others taking advantage of their work at home status. You might have a neighbor who wants you to let the cable guy in, or a family member who all of a sudden needs a sitter for their child.  “Agreeing to do all these favors will not only distract you from your work, but it sets the tone for future encounters.” You need to be able to say no and stick to your schedule. This means communicating to others what your office hours are, and that you’re not available during these times – period.
