Do you have a big ticket item or two that you only use part-time? We are living in an age of “peer sharing” which has opened a door to earning income from renting everything from RVs (Outdoorsy) to sailboats (see Sailo). This works for smaller items, too. KitSplit lets you lend out professional cameras. If you have a desirable item that costs more than the average person can afford, someone out there may be willing to pay to borrow it.
Your blog is very inspiring! Am currently in EBA 3.0 and I need for this to work. LOL! I been a SAHM for years and recently became a school bus driver to earn money and the schedule works around the kids for the most part. I do believe that having enough of an income to support myself is more than enough compensation for escaping the ‘boss’ and having the freedom to provide value to your audience. There are so many articles out there that focus on increasing productivity while working from home. A lot of them are fantastic and chock-full of applicable tips. But some I’ve seen focus on how to set up your home office to achieve feng shui and feature a picture of a woman smiling, holding her baby in one arm, and taking a conference call with the other. Um, no, unless you have the world’s quietest baby. That’s just not how it is.
Our studio has everything in house for creating online businesses and it’s still not easy. We know how to do the market research, design sites, SEO, SEM and create content. Even with all this in house, you still can’t throw it all up on the wall and hope it sticks. It takes total focus. After that you have to constantly make adjustments and decisions based on profitability and ROI. I couldn’t imagine how tough it must be for those who have to constantly outsource these items.
The more oddball your stuff is, the more weird, or rare it is, the better it'll sell. This is exactly opposite if you sell on Amazon. With eBay, the rarer the items are, the more money you'll get, the faster it'll sell, and the more bidders will bid. Speaking of bidding, I never hold bidding auctions. I do buy-it-now with payment required now. Just save yourself the hassle of all the thousands of non-paying bidders out there wasting your time and set your items for buy-it-now. You can do best offer, but in my opinion, it's a waste of time. I always only got super low ball offers, like 10% of what I'm fairly asking and the ones that want to ask for less, don't need a best offer to do so, they email you anyway.
That may mean joining a professional organization or simply meeting peers or former colleagues for lunch on a regular basis. You'll need to work hard to maintain the kinds of relationships you took for granted at the office. Why? Because everyone you know, both personally and professionally, is either a customer or a lead to a customer, so you can't afford to isolate yourself. "Home-based doesn't mean housebound," Parlapiano cautions. "You have to make an effort to get out to meet other people and to make yourself -- and your business -- known."
Schedule time to interact with others. Ideally, you will schedule time for networking events, workshops and classes that pertain to your business. Include developing new relationships or continuing relationships you may have already established. It's too easy to become isolated when you are working from home. Relationships are still just as important as they were when you were going into the office, maybe more important. Join business networks. Attend their meetings. Many events are ideal for those who work at home or own their own business.
When you are at home all day, it can be easy to get distracted too! That book you wanted to read is calling your name, one more episode on Netflix can’t hurt, scrolling through social media will only take a minute….but before you know it, the whole day has passed by and you got no work done! This is something I hear from people all the time! Or, they spend time doing things they think is work, but it’s really not! One of my best tips is to sit down one day every week, and plan out when you are doing to work, what you need to get done, and how many hours you are going to work. Put activities at the top that make you income! Next follow it by items that could make you income. End it with activities that don’t bring in income. This way, you always get done the things that will bring you money! For me, I love to blog but that doesn’t bring me much income, so it’s always the last item on my list. Sure it might be fun, but If I want to work from home, I have to make an income so that means income producing activities first!

To make money from home in customer service, you’ll need a high school degree or the equivalent for many jobs. For some customer service jobs, a post-secondary degree or some college may be required.
