Internal characteristics are important, but they’re not the only traits you’ll need to succeed in working remotely. Reynolds talked about three other necessary skills — which you either have or need to focus on improving. Chief among them is establishing a clear way to communicate on the job. Reynolds passed along wisdom she first heard from another remote manager: “If you’re not communicating, you don’t exist in a remote environment.”

Persistence and Commitment. You’ll need to have a good amount of persistence while pursuing freelance writing gigs. This business is subjective, and while one person may love your writing, another may not. Do your best to always produce good, solid copy and hold on to your commitment to do the best you can for your clients. Just by committing to do those two things, you’ll be miles ahead of your competition.
Yard sales are great to find things, especially books and jeans. I'd get lucky and find a pair of Lucky Brand jeans for $1. Sell on eBay for $100. Keep your eyes peeled, and do your research. After a while, you'll know exactly what goes and for what. If you keep your cell phone with you, never let them see you looking up something and then try to buy the item. You just told them it's worth something, and you'll never score it for a good deal now.

I am a mom of a college kid who uses this site and earns his own spending money for gas or his fun things. I myself have earned over $500 this year and only get to spend a couple of hours (if lucky) a day.

Perhaps you’re raising kids and you’re committed to not using daycare. Maybe you’re a little older and can’t commit to a full-time job. I'm the same way with my art, actually. When I have to make art for money, it's no fun. When I create it out of love, it's such a thrilling process. It depends if your wife wants to start a blog or start a service. I started a service and chose freelance writing. Maybe your wife can do that? Or Pinterest marketing or being a Virtual assistant. If she wants to start a blog then she can blog about many things. This can help you decide her niche. Ideally you want to find something that you’re passionate about and that others are passionate enough to buy in that niche!

More scams. According to the Federal Trade Commission, other common work-at-home scams are related to medical billing ("There's a severe shortage of people processing medical claims!"), envelope stuffing ("For a small fee, we'll tell you how you can earn money stuffing envelopes at home!"), and assembly and craft work ("You can assemble products at home in your spare time!"). In each case, the only one making any money on these deals is likely to be the scammer, who happily accepts your sign-up fee and the money you send in for a "start-up kit"—and then disappears.
