10. Working Solutions – Working Solutions periodically offers work that involves data entry. In order to work with them, you’ll need to fill out an online application and follow it up with taking some assessments. They’ll contact you afterward – their website says this step can take up to 2 weeks – with acceptance or rejection. Once you’re an agent, you will have the opportunity to review and put yourself forward for programs you think match your skills. Each program pays differently, and payment is made either via direct deposit or mailed check.
Think long and hard before shelling out any money: Some work-at-home jobs will require you to purchase materials or equipment to get started, and while that doesn’t mean they’re not legitimate, it should be a red flag. If you are asked to pay for equipment, make sure you understand what you’re buying, and from whom. Also ask about the return policy for your equipment if your new gig doesn’t work out.
Be computer savvy. Since the majority of your work will be done on your computer, you will need to be computer savvy. You should know everything from learning how to use different software, to updating programs and keeping your computer running smoothly, Hanna says. “A broken down computer or Internet connection equals no work getting done, so you will be need to be able to navigate your way around tech issues and concerns.”
Cyndi10...This is filled with important information for us to consider. I am working from home now as I write for hubpages now (but it is not my source of income). It is my job though. Each day I work on revising and reviewing hubs or on creating new ones so following your ten tips is helpful. I checked off mentally your list and I have pretty many addressed however I am bookmarking this and will reread it. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Have an extra room in your house? Staying with the in-laws for a couple of weeks? Then list your home or a bedroom in your home on Airbnb. Listing your property on the site is free, Airbnb collects 3% of each reservation you’re paid for. Property owners also get to decide how much to charge for the listing and the longevity. An excellent way to make extra money and meet new people!

If talking on the phone is not practical for you, you can still work a customer service job from home. Many of the same companies that hire call center agents, also hire chat agents. And in addition to these customer service chat jobs, there are other online chat jobs from home. These include answering questions, doing internet research, moderating in social media and more.
Regardless of how you settle upon a business concept, you'll need to do plenty of homework before you launch. "The more research you do, the more likely you are to succeed," says Priscilla Huff, author of 101 Best Home-Based Businesses for Women (Prima, 1998). "Some women I've spoken to have taken a full year to lay the groundwork for a new business, and it really pays off." The Web is a great research tool, and it can give you invaluable "big picture" information on your industry. Traditional sources, such as your local chamber of commerce, local library, and economic-development office, can provide reliable demographic data on your community.
Motivation is crucial and something you have to mold on your own. Start by determining if you respond best to extrinsic or intrinsic motivation. The first is basically being watched by an employer, or a data-tracking system, someone gauging your productivity (in the case of Ctrip, call volume) with math. That’s easy to do. That’s easy to count and reward and fire. Intrinsic motivation is far more nebulous. You do it because you care about it, because you derive professional pride from accomplishment, because you thrive on innovating, on doing.
I know people who make a good living trading stocks and who have done it successfully for years. I’ve seen people literally sit on a tropical beach, or in a mansion high up in the Hollywood Hills, armed with only a laptop and an internet connection, who can carve out a living from the market. And that, of course, it the allure of trading for a living, freedom.

Businesses are in need of someone to design their logo, website, or visual ads. If you have a degree or certification in this area, you can make a comfortable salary or $45,000 annually. This is starting, the better you get, the more clients will refer other clients over to you. Here is a killer guide I put together on how to build a website that should help you get started.
Also keep in mind that communication with a telecommuting team requires an extra layer of crystal clear clarity. Since almost everything is done via email (and there are no facial or body clues to read), you’ll need to make sure that you mean what you, um, type. I’ve found that shorter, more succinct sentences go a lot farther than long-winded soliloquies.
If you find your apartment too cramped or if the thought of working at a loud cafe or taking calls in a whisper-quiet public library is unbearable, there are plenty of co-working spaces to be found. Services like ShareDesk, WeWork or Croissant help you rent an office space and sit among freelancers and other professionals, maybe making some new friends or even taking advantage of a stocked pantry or kitchen. If you have the cash, you can even have a quiet executive-style office to yourself. Smaller co-working spaces that cater to locals and neighborhoods are a great (and often more affordable) option as well. Just visit Google Maps and search “co-working spaces near” and add your town name to see what’s available around you.

How many times have you told your friends about a great service or product you love? Could you have been compensated for that referral? Many companies today have refer-a-friend programs that will pay you in cash or store credit for bringing them new customers. Look in your online profile for these opportunities. The website will often provide you with a link you can share on social media or in an email. If it’s a product or service you are asked about a lot, it may even be worth your time to get cards printed up with your link for handing out.

That’s the rub, Bloom says: Working from home is not for everyone, and to tell if you’re one of those everyone, do a quick systems check of your self-discipline. “If you can really concentrate at home, you’ll be more motivated than with someone standing over you with a stick,” Bloom says. His study found that younger workers whose social lives were more office-centric tended to avoid working from home, and it was favored more by “solitary, per-hour” workers like call center reps (like Ctrip’s), editors and senior managers—who probably were highly self-directed.
You absolutely have to be available for questions at all times. The general rule of thumb is that you want to respond to questions within 1 hour. I know it seems harsh, but if you call a company, do you want them to call you back next week? Or do you want help now? Because I guarantee you, they'll just go somewhere else, buy from someone else, and you lost the sale. Likewise, always be professional and polite. There are times where you'll wanna slap someone.
Serve as an online juror. Some attorneys use large panels of online mock jurors to get feedback on their cases before they go to trial. However, the mock jurors must live in the county or federal district where the case will be tried. You can sign up at a couple of sites and receive e-mail notifications if a case is posted in your area. EJury.com pays $5 to $10 per case via the online payment system PayPal. You can't be an attorney, paralegal or legal assistant – or even related to an attorney – to participate. EJury says you're likely to have better luck getting picked if you live in a large metropolitan area, where more cases are tried, rather than a rural area. The average case takes about 35 minutes to review. At OnlineVerdict.com, where cases typically take between 20 minutes and one hour to review, fees range from $20 to $60. Payment is made by check.
Decluttr is easy to use. Grab an unwanted item, check that Decluttr buys it (for instance: CDs are great, old clothing is not), and enter its barcode into Decluttr’s “valuation engine” or use your Decluttr smartphone app (iOS and Android) to scan your item directly. You’ll receive an instant price quote that you can accept or decline with no obligation. If you accept, just pack your items into a box large enough to fit them, slap a free Decluttr shipping label on it, and bring it to any authorized UPS location (including drop boxes, if your box contains fewer than 25 items). Decluttr issues your payment the day after your item arrives by PayPal, direct deposit, or paper check. There’s no practical limit to the number of items you can sell: each order is technically limited to 500 items, but you can create as many orders as you like in any given timeframe.
Before you really roll up your sleeves and monetize your personal or professional skills, why not right-size your life? Selling your unwanted stuff is a great way to downsize and declutter your life while earning some income on the side. If you’re transitioning to full-time work-at-home status, that income could provide a critical boost to your plans for a proper home office, or allow you to maintain your lifestyle during lean times without resorting to voluntary simplicity.

While many turn to Wall Street to try to get rich or become a millionaire, I turned to Wall Street seeking a financially sustainable lifestyle so I could work from home and live a quiet life in Vermont.  I thought if I could make an extra $200/day it would allow me to live a simple life.  Although I’ve always wanted to be successful, I didn’t define success as making millions from the stock market.  I define success as getting up every morning and loving what you’re doing.  Ironically, the people who love what they do are often the ones who are positioned to become millionaires because that passion gives way to success.  I have a strong belief that it’s the passion that leads success, not the other way around.  That’s why I strive to nurture a passion in our students, knowing that passion will keep them fighting for success through the struggles every trader will inevitably face.

Although the demand is expected to decrease over the next decade, the opportunities are still there for travel agents who can harness the Internet to earn clients and help them plan their adventures. According to the BLS, job prospects may be best for travel agents who offer expertise in certain regions of the world, have experience planning tours or adventures, or who focus on group travel.
Nowadays you can rent just about anything! I already talked about renting your home or a room in your house, but did you know that you can rent stuff like your car, RV, boat, driveway, backyard and tons more?! If you have property or things lying around your home that you only use occasionally, consider renting it out on some of these platforms for some cash!

I know a separate space is essential for me to fully get in the work “zone.” When I moved from working in an office to working from home, I initially put all my office furniture (most of which I got on a tight budget from Craigslist) in the garage. I’m slowly pulling it out, piece by piece, and adding it to my office: the no-longer-spare bedroom. Keeping it organized is daily work for me. Dealing with paperwork is my biggest organization issue.
Robert Half is a staffing agency that places temporary, contract, and full-time employees in the Finance & Accounting, Creative & Marketing, and Office & Administrative fields. They frequently hire both entry-level and senior-level finance and accounting professionals, including: Accounting Clerks, Accounts Payable, Billing Clerks, Bookkeepers, Payroll Clerks, and many other roles. Pay is generally $15-$20 per hour for entry-level positions and $25-$35+ for higher-level positions.
I remember when I first started working from home and I was terrified to leave my computer for even a second. Irrational thoughts entered my head: “What if I’m grabbing coffee and miss an IM and don’t answer within a few seconds!? They’ll think I’m not working hard enough!” It took me a few weeks to realize how utterly ridiculous this was. If I was in an office, guess what? I’d go grab coffee without a second thought.
It’s one thing to pop by your boss’s office a few times a day to casually ask for their input. It’s another to constantly message them when you’re working from home, asking how they would handle every unique situation. In the beginning, Reynolds suggests asking questions frequently, so you learn the general patterns and inclinations of your manager. Eventually, you can translate that into a healthy autonomy when you can make educated decisions about routine items.
If you have a home office, tell them directly, “Hey, when this door is closed, I’m totally unavailable, pretend I’m not here.” Or, if you don’t have a home office, try finding a quiet coworking space or cafe to go to so they’re not tempted to distract you by barging in and asking you where the paper towels are (they’re in the cabinet under the sink for the third freaking time!).

As usual, another good one from Copyblogger. I feel the most important is the Point 4. Unless people trust you, nothing will move. I have explained in detail the various means of building a community of trusted people for your business to flourish. My take on trust can be read at http://sidsavenue.blogspot.com/2012/03/are-you-aware-of-theory-of-traffic-and.ht ml
Will remote work give me a flexible schedule? This depends on the job. Don’t assume that you will be given only a series of deadlines and total freedom to meet them, however. Most remote workers have to attend several conference calls or video conferences a week – and some of these remote meetings may occur at odd hours considering the time change.

User Testing hires people to test out websites. Each assignment pays $10/$15 for 20 minutes of work. To become a tester – submit your email address and apply. Testers must take a sample test before receiving any assignments. This gig is open to the US and International residents alike who can receive payments via PayPal. Each test takes about 15 – 20 minutes.
Most of those “work from home” opportunities that you see on TV, in the newspaper, or online are scams or pay you so little for the time you’ve invested that it’s not worth your while.  In my quest to figure out a way to ditch the 9 to 5 job so that I could work from the comfort of my own home, I have come across many different opportunities.  Whether you want to work from home so that you have more time with your kids or because you’d rather wear your jammies instead of a suit, the following are some great ideas on how to earn your living by working from home.  I can’t promise you’ll get rich overnight or quickly earn enough to replace your salary, or that it will even be easy, but if you stick with it and keep trying you’ll eventually have achieved your goal.
Believe it or not, you don’t have to be a CPA to start bookkeeping. Just sign-up for a bookkeeping course at a community college or even online, such as this course from the Accounting Coach. Once completed you can start making a start earning. The median salary is $34,000. There are some stay at home bookkeepers I've talked with making upwards of $70,000.
Great Ideas! I use Instagc. In your spare time on your computer. While you won’t get rich – this is a perfect way to earn extra spending money – either cash or gift cards. I am a mom of a college kid who uses this site and earns his own spending money for gas or his fun things. I myself have earned over $500 this year and only get to spend a couple of hours (if lucky) a day.
I’ve read elsewhere the optimistic messages of making money online, and understand the points in your post here too. Setting realistic expectations is important. I think my problem is being paralysed by fear of both success and/or failure. I’m afraid to be successful because it means putting myself out there (chronically shy), and scared shitless of failure for obvious reasons (generally around life security). This keeps me paralysed from doing anything… and in the end, that’s the greatest failure of all I guess. Well, that’s my takeout from what’s written here – perhaps that wasn’t the message, but it’s what I heard 😉
Almost every big business has gotten on the social media bandwagon as a means to reach their customers directly, and without paying heavily for television, print, or radio ads. But not every big business has someone to manage their social media accounts, which is why more individuals have begun marketing themselves as social media managers and helping businesses grow their online following and expand their reach.

Equipment. The largest, and most important, piece of equipment that you’ll need is a high-quality sewing machine. They can range in price from about $2,000 up to $6,000, and you’ll want the best one that you can afford. Other pieces of equipment will vary, depending on what you want to specialize in. For instance, if you intend to make custom draperies, you’ll need a serger, and a drapery steamer.

Some people prefer running a timer app on their computer to set specific blocks of time for each task. You can use your phone’s alarm clock to serve the same purpose. Others however, feel intimidated with a timer and would rather go for a spreadsheet where they can lay out hourly, daily, weekly schedules. Whatever method you pick, the most important thing is you keep track of a routine and your time.
Kanarek says if you’re not taken seriously, it's important to let friends and family know that although you're working from home, you're still working. And if you’re feeling lonely or unmotivated, work from a coffee shop or a restaurant a few hours a week. “While you may not interact with anyone, being around others can motivate you to work,” Kanarek says.
